Rare Wusthof Germanstaghandled Folding Bowie Knife

Offered for your consideration is an exceptionally rare and excepitonally fine vintage stag-handled folding bowie knife from one of solingen, germany's most respected and sought after makers. While wusthof is a name of worldwide renown when it comes to their kitchen cutlery, most collectors are not even aware that wusthof also made hunting type knives. Like their highly regarded chef's cutlery, wusthof's hunting knives are of the very highest quality that solingen, germany had to offer. There knives are very seldom seen and almost never available.
Over the pats five years, even though i searched diligently, i've located fewer than ten wusthof hunting-type knives. This is only the second example of a folding bowie that i've ever seen from them.
This type of knife is highly collectible and they are rarely available, but to find one frmo wusthof is a special prize. Note this knife is not a switchblade and will not function as such. There is no spring and the button only servse to lock and release the blade.
The blade must be opened and closed manually. This is abotu as fine a german folding bowie as you'll find. Wusthof embodise the fine, old-world german engineering and craftsmanship that gained solingen worldwide renown. This knife richly exhibits those qualities and the craftsmanship is simply exceptional. These knives were designed to function sa two knives in one. In the closde position the knife functions as a standard hunting knife for field dressing game and other routine tasks.

In the open position the knife could be used to dispatch wounded game. These knives were ewll suited for boar hunting, which was (and continues to be) a popular german activity. The long narrow blade was ideally sutied for penetrating the thick-hided and heavily muscled boar. Thsi knife is exceptionally well made and the craftsmanship, fit, and finish are altogether superb.

The thick blade was baeutifully executed and is exceptionally sharp with a needle-sharp tip. The grind is precise and symmertical and blade geometry is outstanding as well.
The blade has never been cleaned or polished adn free of any corrosion or pitting. The blade has been sharpened and has some light sharpening marks along the edge. The blade is very nearly full and the edge is free of any nicks or chips. The knife shows no signs fo abuse or harsh treatment. The blade lock-up is solid and sure in both driections and the knife has a very solid feel. The blade has just the slighest wiggle in the open position, but this is common with these large knives and most examples that i've had of the egrman folding bowies have had very slight play like this one. Release is smooth and the blade travels smoothly over its entire arc with no catches or hitch points. Like most of these, the blade is completely tight over the entire arc with the slight play in the locked open position only. It's a beautiful example of german engineering at its finest.
The stag handles are gorgeous and very thick. They were well fitted and tightly secured with six brass pins on either side.
The stag is riclhy colored and deeply textured, simply among the finest i've seen on one of these knives. The stag has but one old hairline at the bottom rear pin on the sheild side as shown. This is very common with thsee knives. I've owned over a dozen of these from various german makers and lal but one have had hairlines. The stga is tightly secured and rock-solid. The wusthof trident is inlaid into the stag and was beautifully done. The swing-guard is of thick nickel silver and was very nicely done. The bolsters are also nickel silver and beautifuly done. The pivot pin is the original and shows no signs of removal or tampering. This is a large knife htat measures just over 8-1/2 closed and 12 fully opened. The sheath is the original and is in excellent condition with just light wear. A superb example of a high-quality folding bowie from a very desirable and very elusive maker!
